A mantra of mine has been "all distractions must be eliminated." At times, we are confused because these distractions can be attractive and enticing. If it is so lovely, why must it be removed? A perfect story to illustrate this comes from my personal life. My father was helping my aunt with her lawn at her new home. She wasn't sure what to pull and what to leave. Some of the plants were flowering and she wasn't sure if that made them unwanted weeds or desired floral beauty. My father's response was, "Even if it's a flower, if it's in a place where you don't want it to be, it's a weed."
Weeds have a way of popping up and taking root when we are not vigilant in protecting the crop. It's not until the plant we want to be healthy is showing signs of distress that we pay attention to the root of the cause. Much like in life. If we are not watching for those negative influences, they have a way of creeping in and stealing joy, energy, and vibrancy. Life is hard enough. We need to be surrounding ourselves with positive people and positive things. This is abundantly important for actors to remember. Actors must be vulnerable to be successful. This leaves us open to a myriad of influences. We must be cautious to weed out the negative and invite in the positive.
As I prepare to create this vision board of influence, I am remaining mindful of the distractions. I am focused on being attracted to things that will bring me closer to my life goals. These things will remain to be nurtured. The negative will be removed from my life such as a gardener pulls weeds.
